Middle School: How to Survive (and Thrive) with Tourette! (Youth 10-12)
Chayse Hevesi
Chayse Hevesi
Chayse Hevesi, a high school freshman, has sailed the Tourette Syndrome Ocean ever since her first tic at age six. She has navigated loud, painful and embarrassing tics, years worth of therapy or medication to address them, and the social strain that comes with having an “abnormal” brain. But through trials and tribulations, Chayse has emerged on the other side and now thrives as a 9th grader at Radnor High School. She is a Distinguished Honor Student, tutor, journalist and Tourette Association Youth Ambassador. Middle school was an extremely tough time for Chayse. Her tics worsened, which caused her to feel isolated from her peers. Anxiety began to creep up on her and pose significant obstacles to academic and social success. The strike of the Covid-19 pandemic in grade six was just the cherry on top of the horrible sundae! But through the patience of her family, teachers and close friends, Chayse was able to come out of her shell. Now in 9th grade, her goal is to lend a hand to students with Tourette who are about to embark on their middle school journeys.
